కార్తీక పురాణము పదకొండవ (రోజు) అధ్యాయము:

నమశ్శివాభ్యాం నవయౌవనాభ్యాం నమో నమః శంకర పార్వతీభ్యాం.

కార్తీక పురాణంలో 11వ రోజు పారాయణ చేయవలసినటువంటి అంశాలను విందాం.
నిన్నటి రోజున పురంజయ చక్రవర్తి యుద్ధానికి బయలుదేరారు అయోధ్యాపురం అవతల చుట్టుముట్టినటువంటి శత్రు సైన్యం మీద ఆయన విరుచుకుపడ్డాడు. అత్రి మహర్షి అగస్యులు వారు చెప్పినటువంటి ఈ సంఘటన మన శ్రద్ధగా విందాం.

ఇదేదో సాధారణంగా ఒక చిన్న యుద్ధం లాగా ప్రారంభమైనటువంటి సమరం ఒక మహాయుధంగా పరిణమించింది పదునైన బాణాలతో వాడి వేడి కలిగినటువంటి అస్త శాస్త్రాలతో కర్రలతో ఖడ్గ పట్టిస ముసుల శూల ఇత్యాది ఆయుధాలతో ఘోరంగా యుద్ధం ప్రారంభమైంది. ఈ సమర సంకులంలో కాంభోజరాజు 300 బాణాల ప్రయోగించి పురంజయుడు గొడుగును జెండాని రథాన్ని కూలగొట్టాడు దాంతో ఆవేశపడినటువంటి పురంజయుడు కాంభోజరాజు మీద దాడి చేశాడు. పదునైనటువంటి అస్త్రాలతో ఆస్త్రాలు కాంబోజి రాజు గుండెల్లో దిగబడ్డాయి అయితే కాంభోజరాజు ఇతరుల సొమ్ములను నేను ఆశించను మహారాజా నీవు పంపిన బాణాలను నీకే తిరిగి పంపుతున్నాను తీసుకో అని తీసి మళ్ళీ ఆయన మీదే విసిరి వేశారు. ఆ బాణాలు పురందరుని సారధిని చంపివేసాయి ధనస్సుని మొక్కలు చేశాయి పురంజయుడిని కొంచెం గాయపరిచాయి. ఇలా యుద్ధం కొంచెం సేపు జరిగాక ఆ యుద్ధ భూమి అంత తొండాలు తెగినటువంటి ఏనుగులు నరకబడిన తలలతో గుర్రాలు విరిగిపడిన రధాలు స్వేచ్ఛగా దొర్లుతున్నటువంటి రథచక్రాలు మొండాలు వేరు చేయబడి దూరం దూరంగా పడి గిలగిలా కొట్టుకునేటువంటి బంట్లు, కలేవబరాలతో ఆ కథనంగమంతా కూడా చాలా ఘోరంగా తయారైంది మృతవీరుల రక్తం మడుగులై అక్కడక్కడ ఏరులాగా ప్రవహిస్తున్నది ఘోర యుద్ధం జరుగుతోంది పురంజయుడు బలం క్రమక్రమగా క్షీణించసాగింది. సాయంకాలానికి పురంజయుడు ఆ శత్రు వీరుల విజృంభణని తట్టుకోలేక పట్టణాన్ని వదిలి పారిపోయాడు అంతఃపురం చేరి ఆనాటి శత్రువు విజయానికి పదేపదే దుఃఖిస్తున్న పురంజయుడిని చూసి సుశీలుడైనటువంటి పురోహితుడు మహారాజా శత్రువు అయిన వీరశైనుడిని గెలవాలంటే మీరు భక్తి ప్రభత్తులతో విష్ణుఉను సేవించడం ఒక్కటే మార్గం. రాజా ఇది కార్తీక పౌర్ణమి చంద్రుడు కృతికా నక్షత్రికుడై షోడశకళామాయంగా ఉండే ఈవేళ ఈ ఋతువు లో లభించే పూలను సేకరించి హరిని పూజించండి, విష్ణు సన్నిధి లో దీపాలను వెలిగించండి ఆయన ముందు గోవిందా, నారాయణ ఇత్యాది నామాలతో మేళతాళాలతో ఎలుగెత్తి పాడండి అలా చేసినట్లయితే ఆ విష్ణుమూర్తి అనుగ్రహo వల్ల మీకు మహావీరుడైనటువంటి కుమారుడు కలుగు. కార్తీక మాసంలో తనను ఆరాధించిన భక్తులతో వేయించాలి సుదర్శన చక్రాన్ని విష్ణువు సహాయంగా పంపుతడని శాస్త్రాలు చెపుతాయి.

ఈ కార్తీక పుణ్య మహిమను చెప్పడం ఎవరి వల్ల అయ్యే పని కాదు కాబట్టి ఓ రాజా నీవు ఓటమికి కారణం సైన్య బలం లేకపోవడం మీకు బలం లేకపోవడం కానే కాదు మితిమీరిన అధర్మవర్తనం వల్ల మీకు ధర్మఫలం తద్వారా దైవబల తగ్గిపోవడమే మీకు ఈ పరాజయానికి కారణం కాబట్టి అంజయ్య కోపాన్ని వదిలిపట్టి శ్రీహరిని సేవించండి సేవిస్తే కార్తీక వ్రతం వల్ల ఆయురారోగ్య ఐశ్వర్య సుఖసంపదలు తప్పకుండా వస్తాయి నా మాట విశ్వవించండి అని పురోహితులు చెప్పారు. కాబట్టి శ్రీహరి సోకాన్ని వదిలిపెట్టి భక్తితో శ్రీహరిని సేవించండి సేవిస్తే హాయ్ రా ఆరోగ్య సుఖసంపదలు వస్తాయి కావున నా మాటను విశ్వసించండి అని పురోహితకు చెప్పారు.
అత్రి మహర్షి చెప్తున్నారు అగస్తులవారితో ఎలా ఓ కుంభ సంభవ ఈ విధంగా సుశీలుడు చేసిన బోధతో తక్షణమే విష్ణు ఆలయానికి వెళ్లి వివిధ ఫల పుష్ప పళ్ళ దళాలతో విష్ణు ఒక పూజించి ప్రదక్షిణ నమస్కారాలను అర్పించి ఆయనను కీర్తించి దీపమాలికలను వెలిగించి ఆ రాత్రంతా ఆ రాత్రంతా విష్ణు సేవలో లీనమై మర్నాడు మళ్లీ ఇద్దరం దానికి ప్రవేశించాడు శత్రువులను సమరానికి ఆహ్వానిస్తూ కాంభోజ కురుజాతి బలాలు పురంజని ఎదురుకున్నాయి అతనికి ఉన్నటువంటి బలానికి దైవ బలం తోడవడంతో ఆనాటి యుద్ధంలో శక్తులన్నీ కుదిగిపోయాయి దైవ కృపా ప్రార్థన అటువంటి పురంజయుడు ముందు చిత్తు చిత్తుగా ఓడిపోయి ఆ తర్వాత వరంజేయుడు ముందు వారే ఈరోజు ఓడిపోయారు శత్రువులందరినీ నిగ్రహించి విష్ణు అనుగ్రహం వలన విజయాన్ని పొందిన వాడే పురంజడు అయోధ్య ప్రవేశం చేశాడు విష్ణు అనుకోనుడైతే శత్రువు మిత్రులవుతాడు దైవవలమే ప్రధానం దేనికైనా ఆ దైవ బలానికి ధర్మాచరణమే అత్యంత ముఖ్యం అందువల్ల అటువంటి ధర్మాజీలలో కార్తీక శ్రీహరిని సేవిస్తారో వారి సమస్త దుకాణాలు కూడా చిటికలో చెతికిపోతాయి శ్యా విష్ణు భక్తి సిద్ధించడమే కష్టతరం నా శక్తి ఆసక్తి కలగడం ఇంకా కష్టతరం కలియుగంలో ఎవరైతే కార్తీక్ వర్తమో శ్రీహరి శివ వదలకుండా చేస్తారో వారు ఎవరైనా సరే మిష్టోత్తరములుగా పరిగణింపబడతారు భక్తులకు అనుగ్రహించి రక్షించగలిగినటువంటి ఏకైక దేవం ఆ వాస్తు దేవుడే విశ్వమంతా నిండి ఉన్న విష్ణు నందు భక్తి ప్రభక్తులు ఉన్న వారికి మాత్రమే కార్తీక అవకాశం చేయించుకుతుంది కనుక కార్తీకవ్రతాన్ని ఆచరించిన కనీసం కార్తీక మహత్యాన్ని మనస్పూర్తిగా విన్నా కూడా వాళ్లంతా ఎగరపాపులై అంశంలో విష్ణువుని చేరుకుంటా అనగానే హే అత్రిమునీంద్ర విష్ణు కృపవల్ల విజయుడైనటువంటి పురంజయుడు ఆ తరవాత ఏంచేసేదో వివరించు అని అగస్యులవారు కోరారు అప్పుడు నవ గ్రూపు వలన యుద్ధభూమిలో విజయలక్ష్మి వరించిన పురంజయుడు అమరావతిలో ఇంద్రుడిలాగా తన ఆరోగ్యం అత్యంత వైభవంతో ప్రకాశించి నిత్యధర్మాచరణ దానశీలత జక్కయ్య గారి నిర్వహణ విద్యార్థులు చేస్తూ ప్రతివర్క్షము కార్తీక వృద్ధాశ్రమం వల్ల విగత కల్మషుడై అంటే కల్మషం లేని వాడై హరిషడ్వర్గాలను జయించి పరమ వైష్ణవుడై అతను కాలం గడపసాగాడు ఒకనాడు ఆకాశవాణి అతనికి పురంజయ కావేరీ తీరంలో శ్రీరంగ క్క్షేత్రం ఉంది శ్రీ రంగనాథుడు అనే పేరా అక్కడ వెలిసి ఉన్న విష్ణువును అర్చించి జనన మననాల నుంచి కడతేరమని ఆకాశవాణి ప్రబోధించడంతో రాజ్య పాలన మంత్రులకు అప్పగించి అనేక తీర్థ క్షేత్రాలను దారిలో దర్శిస్తూ శ్రీహరిని అర్చిస్తూ కావేరి మధ్య మధ్యంగతమైనటువంటి భూలోక వైకుంఠమైనటువంటి శ్రీరంగాన్ని చేరి కార్తీక మాసం అంతా కావేరినదిలో స్నానాధులను చేసే శ్రీరంగంలో రంగనాథుని సేవ ప్రతిక్షణం కృష్ణ గోవిందా వాసుదేవ రంగనాథ అనే హరినామ స్వరాన్ని చేస్తూ జపదానాలను పూర్తి చేసుకొని మరల అయోధ్యకు చేరుకున్నాడు అనంతరం. ధర్మ కామం వల్ల సత్పుత్రాధులను పొందే కొన్నాళ్లకు సర్వ భోగ వివచితుడై భార్య సమేతముగా వానప్రస్థాన్ని స్వీకరించి కార్తీక వ్రతాచరణ విష్ణు సేవలోనే లీనమై తత్ పుణ్యావసాన్న అంతంలో వైకుంఠాన్ని చేరుకున్నాడు.
ఇక్కడితో ఈరోజు అధ్యాయం సంపూర్ణమైంది.
మనకి ప్రతిరోజు చెప్పినటువంటి వర్జ్యములు ఏమున్నాయో దాదశి రోజు కార్తీక మాసంలో 12వ రోజు ఉప్పు పులుపు కారము ఉసిరి వదిలిపెట్టాలి పరిమళ ద్రవ్యాలు దానం చేస్తే విజయ్ పుణ్యఫలంపాకము రాగి వస్తువులు
సదక్షిణ దానం కుర్యాత్ అంటారు. ఏ తత్ దానసాద్గుణ్యార్థం యదా శక్తి దక్షిణం అని దక్షిణ పెట్టి దానం ఇవ్వాలి. అలాగే ఈరోజు భూదేవి సహిత విష్ణువును లేక కార్తీక దామోదరుడుని ధ్యానం చేయాలి. దానివలన బంధ విముక్తి జ్ఞానము ధనధాన్యాలు సంపాదిస్తారని శాస్త్రం మనకి చెప్పింది.
ధర్మస్య విజయోస్తు

Karthika Puranam – Day 11:

Namashshivabhyam Navayauvanabhyam Namo Namah Shankara Parvatibhyam

On the previous day, King Puranjaya, the emperor, had gone to battle. Beyond the city of Ayodhyā, he attacked the enemy army that had surrounded him. This story, as narrated by Sage Atri to Agastya, should be heard with devotion and attention.

What began as a small skirmish soon turned into a great and terrible war. Sharp arrows, fiery weapons, maces, swords, spears, and tridents filled the battlefield.
The King of Kāmboja shot three hundred arrows that shattered Puranjaya’s umbrella, flag, and chariot. Angered, Puranjaya struck back with fierce weapons that pierced the chest of the Kāmboja king. Yet the Kāmboja king, undisturbed, said:

“O great king! I desire not the wealth of others. Take back the arrows you have sent at me!”

He pulled them out and hurled them back at Puranjaya. Those arrows killed his charioteer, broke his bow, and wounded him slightly.

The battlefield became a horrifying sight — elephants with severed trunks, decapitated soldiers, fallen horses, and shattered chariots. The ground was soaked with the blood of fallen heroes, flowing like crimson rivers.
As the evening approached, Puranjaya’s strength waned, and unable to withstand the advancing enemy forces, he retreated into his palace, deeply grieving his defeat.

Seeing the king’s sorrow, his wise royal priest (purohita) said:

“O King! To conquer your enemy, you must take refuge in Lord Viṣṇu with faith and devotion.
This is the Kārttika Pūrṇimā time — when the Moon is full and the Kṛttikā star is ascendant, filled with sixteen shining digits.
Gather flowers of this season, worship Lord Hari (Viṣṇu), light lamps before Him, and sing aloud His names — Govinda, Nārāyaṇa, and others.
By doing so, you shall be blessed with a heroic son, and Viṣṇu Himself will send His Sudarśana Chakra for your protection.”

The priest continued:

“The glory of this Kārttika month cannot be fully described by anyone.
Your defeat was not due to a lack of soldiers or strength but because of unrighteous conduct (adharma), which weakened your divine power.
Therefore, abandon anger, seek Lord Hari’s grace, and by observing the Kārttika vow, you will surely gain long life, health, wealth, and happiness.”

Hearing this, the king immediately heeded the priest’s words.
Sage Atri continued telling Agastya:

At the priest’s counsel, the king went to the temple of Viṣṇu, worshipped Him with fruits, flowers, and sacred leaves, offered circumambulations and prostrations, lit rows of lamps, and spent the entire night immersed in Hari’s service.
The next morning, he again marched into battle. Empowered by divine grace, his army, strengthened by faith, defeated the mighty Kāmboja and Kuru kings.

Thus, by the grace of Viṣṇu, Puranjaya regained victory and triumphantly re-entered Ayodhyā.

Sage Atri said:

“When the Lord’s will is with someone, even enemies turn into friends.
Divine power arises only through righteous conduct (dharma).
Therefore, those who serve Lord Viṣṇu during the Kārttika month destroy all sins and sorrows.
Viṣṇu-bhakti (devotion to Viṣṇu) is difficult to attain, and sustaining it is harder still.
In the Kali age, those who steadfastly observe the Kārttika vow and worship both Hari and Śiva are regarded as most noble among beings.”

Viṣṇu is the all-pervading deity, the essence of the universe, and the only refuge for those devoted to Him.
Even listening to the glory of Kārttika month (Kārttika Māhātmya) with a pure heart grants liberation and divine grace.

Then Sage Agastya asked:

“O Atri Muni! By the grace of Viṣṇu, Puranjaya attained victory. Tell me what he did afterward.”

Atri replied:
Blessed by victory, Puranjaya ruled his kingdom like Indra in Amarāvatī, radiating prosperity, performing righteous deeds, charity, and selfless service. Through observing the Kārttika vows, he became pure in heart and devoted to Lord Hari.

One day, a heavenly voice (ākāśavāṇī) proclaimed:

“O Puranjaya! On the banks of the Kāverī River lies the sacred Śrīraṅgam, the earthly Vaikuṇṭha.
Go there, worship Lord Śrī Raṅganātha, and you shall be freed from the cycle of birth and death.”

Hearing this, the king entrusted his kingdom to his ministers and set forth on pilgrimage. He visited many holy places, performed rituals, and finally reached Śrīraṅgam. There, in the Kārttika month, he bathed in the Kāverī, worshipped Lord Raṅganātha daily, and chanted the divine names — Kṛṣṇa, Govinda, Vāsudeva, Raṅganātha.

After completing his vows, he returned to Ayodhyā.
In time, blessed with sons and peace, he renounced worldly life, entered the forest with his wife, and devoted himself entirely to Viṣṇu’s service through Kārttika vows until he ultimately ascended to Vaikuṇṭha.

Daily Guidelines (Kārttika 12th Day)

On the 12th day (Dvādaśī) of the Kārttika month:

Avoid salt, sour food, spicy items, and amla (gooseberry).
Donate fragrant substances, copper utensils, and other gifts with proper dakṣiṇā (offerings).
Meditate upon Lord Viṣṇu with Bhūdevī (Earth Goddess) or as Dāmodara, for such worship grants freedom from bondage, wisdom, and abundant wealth.
